What's in it for you?
There are many reasons why our volunteers choose to take part in a clinical study at ICON Development Solutions. In this section, you will see the benefits of volunteering.
Payment
The study payment is calculated by the amount of time and commitment involved for our volunteers, ranging from £250 to up to £3,500 if the study is particularly long or detailed. The payment schedule for your chosen study will be explained to you in your notes as some studies that require a longer commitment may be given an interim payment.
Making friends
Volunteering for a study at ICON Development Solutions is a great way to make new friends whilst volunteering. In our 80 bed Manchester unit, there will always be plenty of other volunteers to meet. Many of our volunteers return every 3 months with friends who they have met volunteering with us.
Free Medical
At your pre-study medical, you will meet one of our physicians who will answer any questions you may have. You then sign the consent form to give your permission to take part in the study and any required procedures. The Doctor or Nurse will then ask you about your medical history and give you a thorough medical examination. You will then have certain procedures performed by the medical screening technicians, usually urine and blood samples, blood pressure, height and weight, and ECG (Electrocardiogram – a heart activity tracing). Each study is different, so there may be additional tests to the above, which may require additional visits. You would be informed of all visits and procedures in your study notes which you will receive prior to attending your medical.
Helping to develop medicines
Without the time and commitment of our volunteers, we would not be able to help research and devlop new, potentially life saving medicines. Any medication you buy at the chemists today has been researched by clinical research companies like ICON Development Solutions.
Recreational Time
When taking part in one of our studies you will have lots of time to relax with a book, chat with other volunteers, play pool, table tennis or darts, watch Sky TV, play on the playstation or surf the net. You will be involved in certain study procedures each day but the rest of the time is yours.
